Review: Seidio Holster for Samsung BlackJack

As one of the premier Smartphones on the market, the Samsung BlackJack gets a lot of attention from the folks that make accessories. Seidio is no exception. A quick peek around the WMExperts store shows the manufacturer to be a significant player in the Smartphone market. The Holster ($27.95 from the WMExperts store) for the Blackjack is a good example of their competence.

Introduction

The first decision that should be made regarding any case purchase for your phone is what kind of case are you looking for? Phone design, level of protection desired and method of transport all figure into this decision.

Look

The rubberized feel of this case complements the look and feel of the BlackJack extremely well. The phone slides in and out with minimal effort, while still holding the phone securely.

Design

Being a holster, this isn’t designed to protect your phone while you are using it. The good thing about that is the fact that there is nothing obstructing the keyboard or screen. You get the full benefit of the Blackjack in all of its glory. While not in use, the entire front of the Blackjack is protected, as well as the bottom corners. Good news there of course is that the screen is protected. The belt clip does not remove from the holster, but rotates 180 degrees in 15 degrees increments (horizontally both directions). The phone is held in place with a spring loaded clip, which allows the phone to be held in place without actually flexing the holster. A rubber toothlike protrusion on the inside of the clip does a good job of both adding an extra measure of security as well as protecting the phone from rubbing against a hard surface.

Quality

Seidio didn’t skimp on the materials when they built this particular case. The holster frame feels sturdy with or without the phone inside. The front of the Blackjack is protected by a layer of fabric.

Conclusion

My only complaint about this holster is one that most people either wouldn’t care about or wouldn’t notice. The spring loaded clip at the top, while doing a very good job of holding the phone, extends down far enough that when you open the clip, it pushes the phone out of the holster, rubbing against the screen. I would have liked to see Seidio put an extra piece of fabric on the bottom of the clip, instead of leaving the hard plastic to press against the most vulnerable part of the phone.
