Navteq is one of the big two digital mapmakers out there (the other Nokia, the world’s largest cellphone maker, said it will acquire Navteq for $78 a share, which is only 3 cents above Navteq’s closing share price on Friday. But Navteq’s stock has risen sharply in recent weeks amid rumors that it was a takeover target.Once rumor became reality, investors seemed a bit disappointed.

Gooble Gobble. Either Microsoft and Nokia decided to bury the hatchet or else Nokia decided they couldn’t live without Nokia announced today that it has teamed up with Microsoft to offer Windows Live services directly on S60 compatible Nokia smartphones.

So last October, Nokia announced they were creating a new, lower-power bluetooth-esque standard - because regular old Bluetooth took too much power and they wanted to put “personal area networking” features on watches and, I dunno, earrings or something. Anyhow, I panned the idea then and I’m happy to he Wibree forum, the group specifying the Nokia developed ultra low power wireless technology, will be merged with the Bluetooth SIG.

Available for download tomorrow, Feb 10th, Nokia is offering a free GPS navigation application called smart2go Nokia today announced that it is making its smart2go mapping and navigation platform, available for free download (www.smart2go.com), enabling millions of people to use the most comprehensive map coverage offered on a mobile device.... Nokia plans to start offering the smart2go application for free, on Saturday, February 10th, for selected Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile 5.0 devices initially and has plans to roll out support for most of the major mobile OS platforms including Nokia S60, Series 40, PocketPC, Linux and other Windows Mobile devices.
