Round Robin: iPhone Mike's Final Thoughts on the ATT Tilt

If you missed Mike's first take on the AT&T Tilt, you should go take at look at that first. He mentions there that Windows Mobile is awfully darn customizable - and with his “fond farewell” he gets into it even more:

CrackBerry Kevin's Last Look at the Tilt

We may have made a tactical error in using the Tilt for the Smartphone Round Robin, folks. It is incredibly powerful - WiFi, GPS, decent RAM and Processor - but also the only “Two Hands Required” device in our lineup. Still, Kevin was able to see past that to get a pretty good take on Windows Mobile from a BlackBerry user's point of view:

Smartphone Round Robin: CrackBerry Kevin Tries Out the Tilt

If you haven't already, you really need to go read this: Smartphone Round Robin: Goodbye BlackBerry, Hello Windows Mobile and the ATT Tilt | CrackBerry.com. I'd call it “comprehensive,” but I like the word “comprehensive” and I don't want to make it feel embarrassed about the fact that it's just not a strong enough word to describe Kevin's first take. “Exhaustively comprehensive” is a better fit.

How To: Customize Your Tilt

If you saw our Video First Look at the Tilt, you know our major complaint is that it doesn’t have an especially good out of box user experience. The Tilt is ok on its own, but it certainly has a lot of annoying tweaks and twacks that keep it from being the stupendous device the hardware promises.

Video First Look: ATT Tilt

The out-of-the-box experience made one thing clear, that this device is meant for power users. It’s not just that it has WiFi, GPS (which you’ll need to manage carefully given the relatively small 1350 mAh battery).

Tilt. $299. October 5th.

I guess the “tomorrow” I previously mentioned was, in fact, just the “internal to AT&T” release of information.... The AT&T Tilt is the first AT&T-enabled Windows Mobile 6 smart device and features an innovative slide-out QWERTY keypad design, a 3-megapixel camera, 3G data speeds from AT&T’s UMTS/HSDPA-based BroadbandConnect network and complete global connectivity.

Alltel Gets HTC PPC 6800

You can call it the Mogul, you can call it the UTStarcom XV6800, you can call it the Titan, or you can call it the PPC6800 — which is what Alltel settled on. Whatever you call it, it’s the premier slider Windows Mobile device right now - a title it will likely keep in the CDMA world for quite awhile (the AT&T Tilt will usurp it on GSM, natch). Alltel just snapped it up and so can you for $249 after rebates.
