Blackjack 2 Rocks Touchscreen?

After reading Andrew’s full-throated defense of the Treo over at Treonauts, I was slightly abashed to realize that the Treo really does still have a very nice form factor - it’s just that Palm got it right early and hasn’t managed to significantly improved on it. To wit: * Mobility Today is one among many sites showing a photo and video of this sweet-looking Samsung device.

Palm Gandolf Arriving Sept. 12th: Believe it Again

Via my post at TreoCentral, check out this quote from the Palm Blog: There’s been a lot of buzz about the new device our friends across the “pond” are planning to announce on September 12th…and it’s not the Palm Centro smartphone!... The linked article is a sad on again, off again history of speculating on a rumor with a happy ending: my original guess seems right.

Foleo Cancelled, A Curious Absence

Here’s me over at TreoCentral, reporting on Palm’s big news yesterday afternoon: Colligan states that Palm wants to focus their development efforts on the Linux Smartphone Platform, though he did write that Palm still plans on developing the a “Foleo II” and releasing it sometime in the future — based on the new “unified platform.” Read: treocentral.com >> Stories >> Business >> Foleo Cancelled!... Sure, it’s a black eye, but a black eye is better than walking around with your pants down.

Palm Releases Sprint 700wx ROM Update

No, it’s not the Treo 750 ROM Update we just asked for a minute ago. Neither, sadly, is it Windows Mobile 6, which I think we need to give up hope on seeing on the 700wx in any flavor.... Supports USB and Bluetooth connections.Advanced audio support (A2DP) – enjoy your music in full stereo with new support for Bluetooth stereo headsets.Hands-free enhancements – Drive safely and work more efficiently.

More Gandolf Pics, Speculation

All in all, it looks like it belongs to the low-end Zire family of Palm devices The anonymous source provided a set of images below of the Treo 800 as well as a short video clip (coming later).... He goes on to describe the keyboard as “very smaller” (sic) than the Treo 650 and 680 and that the keys are a soft translucent plastic.

Treo 750 Audio Alerts Update

I’ve experienced this issue and always chalked it up to WMW (Windows Mobile Weirdness), but apparently it’s just straight-up tomfoolery from Palm.... It was annoying and whenever I’d discovered that I’d missed a call n Audio Alerts software update for the Treo 750 smartphone from AT&T is now available.

Palm's ROM Follies

My duties there have mostly been relegated to the TreoCast The biggest deal is the addition of A2DP, though that couldn’t have been that hard since people have been hacking it onto the 700wx for awhile now. TreoCentral forum member hannip posted a download for Sprint 700w/wx users back in February and made lots of Treo owners very happy.

Palm "Gandolf" - WM6 Standard Edition?

1179319536249 The internets 'asploded over the weekend with leaked pics and rumors of a new Palm device that *doesn't* appear to be a Treo - or at least not any sort of Treo that we know. First we saw a photo or two that looked pretty photoshopped, or at least pretty strange - these photos showed a PalmOS dialer (that says "Windows Mobile" on the top, scrunched down to fit on what's clearly a 240x320 screen. These were met with more than a little incredulity. But then over at the TreoCentral Forums, CGK posted the photo you see at right, which looks quite a bit more legit. Witness: Vodafone logo (Palm released the first Treo 750v on Vodafone), Palm logo, and even a serial # in the upper right that indicates this is indeed some sort of pre-production model. Given that Palm is in love with touchscreens, a device like this is a bit of a surprise from them - would they even call it a Treo? Would they admit that it's basically a year behind the rest of the pack (Looks like a Dash knock-off to me).

Treo 800w in September? 320x320 FTW!

Images Admin Uploaded 1178673885-1 Pictured at right, the PalmOS Treo 755p on Sprint. Shuffle some branding and, er, the *Operating System* and I strongly suspect you'll be looking at the new Treo 800w on Verizon. Palm has long said that they want to standardize their hardware so they don't have to keep redesigning products so they can put PalmOS or WM on it. The rumored 800w looks to be the fruits of that standardization. Or so I think, being relatively steeped in Palm lore. So, going with the same assumption that the 800w will share the same hardware as the 755p (much in the same way that the 700w and the 700p are nearly identical), we should expect this new Verizon 800w to have: - 320x320 resolution touchscreen (joy!) - Antenna-less design - EVDO, but likely not Rev A (boo!) - A decent 312mhz processor

An unnamed source on HowardForums has posted what is supposedly a timetable of upcoming releases for Verizon. This lists a previously unknown device, the Palm Treo 800w.If this information is correct, this model will launch on September 13, after having been moved back from August 27.

Palm's "Foleo" to be announced today

It looks like a little slip-up with Palm’s Press Release RSS Feed let the news slip a little early - the mystery product that Palm’s been hard at work at is a “thin client” of a sort - a device that hooks up to your smartphone and act like a mini-laptop. I’ll be putting up more details at our sister site According to a RSS news feed from Palm, their mystery "3rd category" device is a compact smartphone companion product named Foleo that lets you view and edit emails using a large screen and fullsize keyboard Read: treocentral.com >> Stories >> Hardware >> Palm’s Foleo a “smartphone companion product”?

Palm Developing Linux OS, Still Keeping WM

Microsoft’s job of offering the best mobile OS in the market just got a little more interesting, as Palm announced today that they’re working on a Linux-based PalmOS.... In any case, by the end of the year the number of players in the smartphone space with modern OSes wil be much larger than it is *Palm has been working on a new version of the PalmOS that is based on a Linux kernel.
