As Jennifer notes over at TreoCentral, Palm has announced that they’re a big partner for the upcoming Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 (yes, that’s what it’s called - that whole phrase.... If you’re interested in what it means that Palm is going to support it with a software update to the Treo 750, well As expected, Palm today announced that it will make the Palm(R) Treo(TM) 750 smartphone compatible with Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, delivering increased security and easier phone management, as well as access to information on the corporate network.

Forum user levinda was one of the “lucky” few who managed to sneak in an order for the Samsung SCH-i760 when it was briefly available via a backdoor method - Placement of the Start and Ok keys on the right side of the device.... Basically, unless you have really big hands it is almost impossible for me to use one-handed, even when I didn’t need to slide the keyboard out!- I thought the front keypad would enable one-handed use for quick typing of SMS.

After reading Andrew’s full-throated defense of the Treo over at Treonauts, I was slightly abashed to realize that the Treo really does still have a very nice form factor - it’s just that Palm got it right early and hasn’t managed to significantly improved on it. To wit: * Mobility Today is one among many sites showing a photo and video of this sweet-looking Samsung device.

Palm also released its Windows Mobile 6 upgrade in Europe - at the moment for the Vodafone Treo 750v only and available right from now for UK, Irish and Dutch users.

My duties there have mostly been relegated to the TreoCast The biggest deal is the addition of A2DP, though that couldn’t have been that hard since people have been hacking it onto the 700wx for awhile now. TreoCentral forum member hannip posted a download for Sprint 700w/wx users back in February and made lots of Treo owners very happy.

I thought that I was being pretty optimistic when I posted my expectations for the (apparently) upcoming Treo 800w, which I think is going to be nearly identical to the pictured 755p at right. But I'm not nearly as hopeful as a tipster who sent the following specs to Gizmodo:
Lots and lots of improvements for Sprint users over what they can get right now with the 700wx, including EV-DO REV A., Windows Mobile 6, a 320x320 display (now supported on WM6), 256MB flash, 128MB RAM, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and an expansion slot.

...Two bits. Bit #1: I still suspect that Verizon will get it first as it appeared on their roadmap and Palm likes to spread the exclusivity love around as much as possible. Bit #2: It would be nice to finally see Palm release a powerhouse device that included GPS and WiFi, but I seriously doubt it. I don't even expect Rev A., to be blunt. Sorry to be blunt, but I just don't believe that the hardware for the 800w will be that significantly different from the PalmOS Treo 755p. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to combine a *hosanna* with a *mea culpa* - but I don't think I'm wrong. Now, Palm, quit letting all those carriers you work with leak out any more stuff about your upcoming products, I'm tired of writing about you today.

Pictured at right, the PalmOS Treo 755p on Sprint. Shuffle some branding and, er, the *Operating System* and I strongly suspect you'll be looking at the new Treo 800w on Verizon. Palm has long said that they want to standardize their hardware so they don't have to keep redesigning products so they can put PalmOS or WM on it. The rumored 800w looks to be the fruits of that standardization.
Or so I think, being relatively steeped in Palm lore. So, going with the same assumption that the 800w will share the same hardware as the 755p (much in the same way that the 700w and the 700p are nearly identical), we should expect this new Verizon 800w to have:
- 320x320 resolution touchscreen (joy!)
- Antenna-less design
- EVDO, but likely not Rev A (boo!)
- A decent 312mhz processor
An unnamed source on HowardForums has posted what is supposedly a timetable of upcoming releases for Verizon. This lists a previously unknown device, the Palm Treo 800w.If this information is correct, this model will launch on September 13, after having been moved back from August 27.

TreoCentral notes that the Treo 750 is now available generally in Europe, no longer just tied to Vodafone. Good deal, that, I suppose if you really wanted to you could buy one up and ship it here. HSDPA is included too, thanks be to Palm. It should show up at < http://eurostore.palm.com/> sometime today.
Hurry up and end your exclusivity with Cingular, Palm. I keep going back to my unlocked 750v, it's a darn great phone and you need to get it in more people's hands.
> *I was very stoked to read that Palm announced that the Treo 750 will be made generally available across Europe via Palm's online store (http://eurostore.palm.com) and from retail outlets in the coming month, beginning Feb. 6. As you know, the Treo 750 was previously available on Vodafone's 3G/UMTS network since September 2006 in the UK and across much of Western Europe, marketed as the 750v. It looks like that's going to change starting tomorrow.*
